In the past 3 months, while on hiatus from systems design and development projects, I had the opportunity to revisit some of my clients and help them with their organizational restructuring.
How can one do restructuring amid all the turmoil and remain positive? Easy answer: be honest
Organizational Restructuring 101
1. be honest of why you need to do it. the only constant is change.
2. be transparent to a point. confidential information is just that.
3. be careful. with your words, thoughts, and communications.
4. be wise and mindful of others motiviations
5. be consistent to avoid discrimination
6. be timely and use your instincts
7. use the golden rule. no matter what.
well, this all might seem fine and dandy on paper, yet what about in real action?
it works. just remember, we are all in this together and we are all human and mortal.
be compassionate, forthright, dependable, strong and resilient.
what are the 6Ms? well, that's easy, in the fish bone diagram to all things, root cause analysis, etc... they are... man, machine, methods, materials, metrics, and management. one can always easily explain how things work in a continuous improvement cycle on these 6 things...
your policies and procedures, standing operating procedures, best business practices, metrics, and KPIs all revolve around those 6 things...
there is always room for more to come....
