I ran into an interesting problem yesterday and it appears the problem might be manifesting itself to other computers.
If you get the error message in Outlook (2016) connected to Exchange (2016) and Exchange component is the only Add-in, and you go to connect and get a Disconnected message right away, its probably the Windows Credentials (windows credential manager) that are corrupted.
After all that I did and other things to resolve disconnected, it came down to delete the Windows Credentials for Office 2016 Outlook 2016 and then re-enter the username (email address) and password and voila. Resolved.
Most of the Microsoft MVPs recommended creating a new profile yet my client had too much going on in their view and configuration and multiple exchange accounts.
I did disconnect the non-primary exchange accounts and still disconnected occurred, until I thought, it might be the windows credentials stored. Just go to the Windows Credential Manager and look for Outlook entries and just delete them.
