In the last few days, I wanted to revisit the SEO optimization techniques used by our company for over 350+ business clients as the market continues to move and change. I was akin to review based on a few dashboard metrics that started to tilt in the wrong way. Therefore, given Mountain Computers history of research and analysis, and using privately held and proprietary solution(s), I successfully re-adjusted our clients websites to again achieve #1 SEO search engine placement in their market and industry, for now, and for over the last 15+ years
Why the passion? For me, this all started in 1993 when the Internet started and I was at Microsoft Corporation in Redmond Washington just getting started in my career. Alas, by 1997 when I semi-retired, I had the SEO world by its horns. Somehow because of family and trust in bad technology mentors and corrupt business leaders I missed out on the boat of so many great companies past my Microsoft successes. Alas, I am resilient and persevere and continue on to learn, test, prototype and share my research and results to the public to a point; I love open source and I love capitalism; not a dichotomy at all.
Alas, I just finished reviewing over 350+ of our business clients SEO and feature rich secrets. It was enlightening to me even after a year of pause. While 350+ might not be many for some, its quite large in comparison to the size of each company; the successful design and delivery to each enterprise and SMB client; all the while, in less than a few weeks for each, once approached, approved, and solved. Voila! Willy Wonka magic is what we have!
Fast forward 15 years, in my analysis, I looked at seven key indicators and metrics that have moved a bit off center as of late and the tendency has been ongoing in the last few years:
1. Sitemaps in XML format have simplified
2. Website control files like ads.txt, humans.txt and robots.txt effectiveness are ignored and sucks
3. Geo-location filtering by country instead of by IPv4 needs to be a free edge level solution and easier
4. Tools to automate and optimize SEO have grown stale
5. Major search engines ignore most meta-tags now
6. Meta tags like title and keywords seem of little help
7. Domain names relevant to the business product and service continues steady
Why has the above happened?
1. Spider AI has caught up to ignore the value and complexity of META tags as meaningless
2. Website AI spiders and AI crawlers have what they need in just a few seconds of a scrape
3. One would hope the AUP on scraping websites have been sensed by cloud providers to hinder mass hauls and performance hits from Internet information data warehouse penetrators and perpetrators
So where does that leave us in the SEO world if you don't own your own search engine and control the placement of your content that is strategic to your success? Magically, back where and when it all started to mold in 1997, I lectured and taught for decades to my business clients the following:
1. Domain name (exact match to business name, product and service, region/state/country specific) - vital
2. Meta Title (3-5 words with phone number) - vital
3. Meta Keywords (4-8 pronouns) - vital
4. Webpage Rich Content (1 pager, good verbose writing, all images have alt / title tags, make sure and verify Google Translate works with your content perfectly to all available languages) - vital
5. Navigation simple with usability and speed (page load < 1 sec, 1 click to any page/answer, < 10 traceroute (tracert) hops from any user source location to your content (live or cached)...) - vital
* canonical - something relatively unimportant seemingly important
What is left? Do what I did. Spent 96 hours analyzing over 100+ SEO KPIs and metrics and dashboards and finding the magic sauce and perfect sweet spot. I did and implemented it in about 6 hours, and refined it in the last 2 hours. Wow! Amazing!
Long term question:
How do you handle 175 zetabytes of Internet content by the year 2025? #SEO is the answer & more interesting now that it appears to be simplifying in order to get faster as content grows beyond bounds and ability to process by super computing by any.
