In the past few months, there has been a drop off on the drive technologies, as if, it has plateaued for a while.
The storage increase requirements over time have increased from storage available in 1-2 years is now 3-5 years.
Data storage requirements jumped by a factor of 3 in the last year. Instead of a steady pace of eating 2-3 terabytes per year on a medium engineering business, it has increased to 3-5 terabytes per year.
That deteriorates the life span of a storage array by 30-50%, from a 5-7 year life cycle to a 3-4 year life cycle. That is huge!
