To many, the need to have a firewall is important on your computer, on your network, at home or at work.
The basic firewall is like your front door of your home or business. It is only open for those you invite in.
If you need to, one can reset their firewall.
the what you type in an administrative command prompt to reset a firewall for windows is:
netsh advfirewall reset
I usually do a little more like the following as well, then reboot my computer.
netsh winsock reset
when you reset it, and reboot, you will be prompted by programs that need permission to open up ports on the Firewall, like Google Chrome, your HP or other print and scanner. Just be careful what pops up and asks for permission. If you say Yes, to allow, and you change your mind, then repeat the reset and reboot, and then answer differently. If you answer No, then you should just be fine and dandy unless something does not work as expected.
NOTE: If you are using an antivirus program that has its own firewall and does not use the Windows firewall, then you have to reset it through its methodology; Norton and McAfee have Reset Default Settings and that usually works.
Remember, if your Internet on your computer is running just fine and then suddenly stopped working, could it be your antivirus and firewall somehow got corrupted either by a virus or update? Yep. I have seen it many times, and just uninstalling and re-installing your antivirus and resetting your firewall saves the day and you are back in business and online.
