I was going through about 20 hard drives in my stack of odds and ends, and realized...
most people don't know how to store and save hard drives for future usage?
Imagine the connectivity and magnetism of hard drives and their stability.
Stack and store criss crossed and on a stable platform. Also keep them in non-metallic carriers if you can while stacked. They can be in anti-static bags too yet not necessary.
I stack my 3.5" and 2.5" hard drives criss crossed on a test bench and keep them free from sunlight, heat and other forms of interruption.
About once per year I will mount these drives in a drive dock 3.5" by Tripplite and spin up and connect to a test system and let it spin up and mount. Then determine after a few hours if it is still okay. If I hear it knock or make some sound bad, I will consider scrapping it. If it does not do that, then unmount and return to storage.
